Bënja Thermal Baths and Langarica Canyon from Sarandë: Is the Long Day Worth It?

Updated October 18, 2026 · 6 min read

Bënja is worth the long day when mountain scenery matters as much as bathing. These are outdoor mineral springs beside the Langarica River, not a managed spa complex. Albania’s tourism authority places them at the canyon entrance near Përmet and describes the springs as thermal. The water is naturally heated, but no temperature is guaranteed, so do not expect a hot spa.

What you see

The pools sit beneath the old stone Kadiu Bridge, with Langarica Canyon immediately beyond. Albania’s official tourism site gives the canyon a length of about 4 km and rock walls over 100 m, but a day trip does not mean walking its entire length. Water level, weather and the group’s pace determine how far it is sensible to enter.

Bring swimwear, a towel, footwear with grip and dry clothes. The riverbed and pool edges can be uneven and slippery. There are no grounds for promising step-free access, changing facilities or a particular pool depth; confirm practical needs with the operator.

Tour or independent drive?

The Përmet thermal baths and Langarica Canyon trip starts at €38, lasts 7 hours and has 4.9 from 141 reviews. Its main advantage is removing a long day of navigation and parking. The alternative Bënja and canyon trip starts at €40 and has 5.0 from 84 reviews; check its current duration and exact inclusions on the booking page.

Driving gives control over stops and bathing time, but this is not a casual hop from Sarandë. Mountain roads, fatigue and the return after a full outdoor day are part of the decision. If you plan several road trips, compare car hire in Sarandë, then confirm the excess, deposit, fuel policy and roadside cover with the provider. A guided trip is usually the calmer choice when nobody wants the long return drive.

When not to choose it

Skip this day if you want a hot spa, guaranteed facilities or an easy half-day. Heavy rain or high water can alter safe access to the canyon, and cold weather makes changing outdoors less appealing. Never enter moving water merely because other visitors do.

Verdict

Choose Bënja for the combination of river, stone bridge, canyon and open-air pools. The organised 7-hour trip is the clearest fit for most Sarandë visitors. Drive only when the freedom to stop around Përmet outweighs the effort of a long day behind the wheel.
